The Polo Masters at Geneva - One charge of the cavalry. Here, at the foot of Mont Blanc, for the twelfth year, the heart of the village of Megeve resonates to the breathtaking rhythm of the Polo Masters. The snow amplifies the deafening thunder. Born in ancient Asia, then codified by English officers in India, Polo is the fastest of the ball sports. It requires an exciting mix of skill and flair, satisfying any crowd. In Megeve, the cold and the ice intensify the difficulty, as the ponies' energy is invigorated by the low temperatures; these small horses, with superb reactions, play as much as their riders. The tournament adopted the “arena” form, pitches teams of two against each other (usually four against four). The Savoy match, from 18 to 21 January 2007, placed eight international teams against each other, galloping on the central skating rink day and night. The title-holder for two seasons, the team from Mont d'Arbois, took the lead, sponsored by watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre, through the fearless Laurent Dassault. His team-mate, Thierry Vetois, also took a bow, after a beautiful defence, confronted by the young Pakistani team Blackberry, made up of Justin Gaunt and the Fiyaz brothers. A guaranteed spectacle.
